Harrison, un jeune homme insomniaque perturbé depuis l'enfance par un rêve récurrent, consulte le docteur Karn, un psychiatre excentrique. Celui-ci décide d'hospitaliser son jeune patient à Lafayette, un immeuble décrépit occupé par des malades.
